Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope has spoken of the madness following the incident. Toon fans hijacked an online poll that resulted in the England man ranked as the top trending player in the UK on Twitter.
Toon Polls, a Newcastle fan account, answered a Burger King online poll asking for opinions on gherkins as well as tomatoes.
The account joked about the tweet 'Nick Pope' and set off a viral trend that saw the likes of McDonalds, Easyjet and Amazon all tweeting the name of the Magpie's summer signing.
In an interview in an interview with Sky Sports, the 30-year-old revealed how he came to know about the incident and how his phone was flooded with notifications.
